President Obama threw the first pitch at last night’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game. He was cheered by baseball fans even though the pitch was a little short of home plate.
Throwing a ceremonial first pitch is a presidential tradition that dates back decades, although Obama was the first president to do this at an all-star game since Gerald Ford. Many were surprised to see the president wear a Chicago White Sox jacket while at the St. Louis, Missouri, Cardinal’s stadium.
“Everyone knows I’m a White Sox fan,” Obama said while he joined the television commentators during the game. “My wife thinks I look cute in this jacket. Between those two things, why not?” A video of this conversation is available on Real Clear Sports.
