Obama Visits Afghanistan for First Time as President

President Barack Obama arrived in Afghanistan for the first time as president March 28 in an unannounced visit (for security) to meet with Afghan President Hamid Kharzai and U.S. service members, a trip that lasted six hours.

Obama’s national security advisor James L. Jones said Obama wanted Karzai to know that “in [Karzai’s] second term, there are certain things that have not been paid attention to, almost since day one.”

Those things include wanting “to continue to make progress on the civilian process,” Obama said, and following up on Karzai’s inaugural address promises to fight corruption in the government once ruled by the Taliban.

At Bagram Air Force base, Obama addressed a crowd of U.S. and allied troops.

“Our broad mission is clear: We are going to disrupt and dismantle, defeat and destroy al Qaeda and its extremist allies,” Obama said. “And to accomplish that goal, our objectives here in Afghanistan are also clear: We’re going to deny al Qaeda safe haven. We’re going to reverse the Taliban’s momentum. We’re going to strengthen the capacity of Afghan security forces and the Afghan government so that they can begin taking responsibility and gain confidence of the Afghan people.”

In December, Obama ordered additional 30,000 troops to be sent to Afghanistan.

“Make no mistake, this fight matters to us…it matters to the Afghan people,” Obama said. “Al Qaeda and the violent extremists who you’re fighting against want to destroy. But all of you want to build — and that is something essential about America. They’ve got no respect for human life. You see dignity in every human being. That’s part of what we value as Americans. They want to drive races and regions and religions apart. You want to bring people together and see the world move forward together. They offer fear, in other words, and you offer hope.”

Obama spoke to troops about his efforts to improve pay and benefits to service members.

  4. OBAMA ON AFGHAN SOIL

In the history of mankind in this universe, only faces have been changing, while the basic desires of every individual any where have been the same. Different ways and means are being used to reach the desired ends. Before, this internet age, human beings in this universe had huge geographical hurdles, in communication with each other, therefore division on national, religion, ethnic, color, region, and races had to be the natural outcome and ultimate realities, we all facing today. However, this revolution in information technology and netting of humanity in this universe has now changed this basic concept and now whole world is seen as a village and on USA soil this process has already started, taking shape and where human beings from different parts of the world are coming together and forming a unique society under one banner, with basic human values, and in 2009 with a slogan of CHANGE, this newly emerged human’s universal approach made an African American black OBAMA as a President of USA. This was a silent revolution in Americans public opinion wherein hate against US sponsored wars in world, particularly Iraq and Afghanistan, remained main contributing factor. He too has declared it as an America of 2009; however the way he landed on Afghan soil, has never been different from his predecessors or the past history of America. For a person like Obama, being head of an occupation force, in an unannounced visit, landing on an occupied Afghan soil, looked totally different from what he had been advocating for while campaigning in election rallies and for which American voters had voted. No doubt he has announced US withdrawal in 2011 and agreed to negotiate with the Taliban to save 0wn skin and get out his troops safely but has no future planning for what will be the situation in Afghanistan at the hands of their trained war lords under the names of Alqaida, Taliban and Mujahideen. US’s declaration of independence and British’s Magnacarta have condemned such oppressions centuries back in their respective homelands and today Freedom, Equality, and Fraternity are their main values at home and part of their national faith but abroad none follow same values and continue to use centuries old rejected tactics to maintain hegemony.

  5. Should America permanent on Afghanistan? Why not let them self?
