You may have noticed that President Obama is not a fan of nuclear weapons. At a speech in Prague this past April he called for their abolition. He has been working with Russia to reduce the number of U.S. and Russian nuclear weapons and launchers. And he has also been trying to prevent Iran and North Korea from developing nuclear weapons of their own.
Today marked another indication that nuclear nonproliferation is a huge priority of the Obama administration when the president called a summit meeting of the United Nations Security Council and became the first U.S. head of state to ever chair the body. It was also only the fifth time the Security Council has met at the head of state level since its formation in 1946. The first was held in 1992 to discuss the dissolution of the former Soviet Union.

What President Obama and the other heads of state achieved from this summit was the first U.N. Security Council resolution calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons and which sets out a broad framework on how to reduce nuclear dangers in pursuit of that goal.
The spread and use of nuclear weapons is a “fundamental threat to the security of all peoples and all nations,” Obama said. If one nuclear weapon exploded in a major world city, it would kill thousands, and “it would badly destabilize our security, our economies, and our very way of life.”
The president said every country has the right to peaceful nuclear energy, but those which already have nuclear weapons “have the responsibility to move toward disarmament,” and those who don’t “have the responsibility to forsake them.”

“On the equation between India and Pakistan in relation to the world powers”
India is a secular country by its constitution whereas Pakistan is a strongly based religious country.
If one goes by the history of life, the vital of Muslim religion is the strongest not subjected to change easily because at the lower level of Muslim religion it absorbs the scars of enmity and those remain due to literacy level not seen going over the lower levels and the strongest over the lower level of Muslim religion remaining of its governance with the hidden files of the lower levels; governance that superficially comes to present itself with equality outwardly through politics accepting bilaterally and multilaterally the rules of other countries in economic as well as in power terms Militarily. That is the only unhealthy sign that partition of India has of its legacy between India and Pakistan centered around the scars of enmity that are religiously based against the secular?
? – The legacy questions the minds of the world on non proliferation and CTBT where India directly comes into the picture of its status secular that accommodates all religions and all walks of life with a mixed equation of tolerance that in actual fact does not accommodate enmity of its subtle inherent state for any one with wrong leanings that the hidden files of the past provide because the term secular is spiritually indirectly related with a state where religions end for a new beginning that is universally of humanity. Can Pakistan be seen with an end of their religious base in governance truthfully? It is the partition of India that has created problems for Pakistan as a separate country of its power state that has come to be manned by the foreign powers both economically and militarily. This is based on the fact that whenever there has been a floating ball for India to sign nuclear non proliferation treaty in the past, Pakistan jumped with the idea that if India signs first, it we will also follow course? What does that mean? – Are they (Pakistan) second fiddle to India on NPT and not independent as they are as a country in relation to the world? Well that again means India should not have been divided or partitioned? K issue has also emerged out of partition with terror and nuclear threat perceptions as India has been diligently absorbing from Pakistan’s past ruler. India, the big brother as Pakistan calls may want to sit across the table to settle the K issue and the point remains and that is “at whose cost”? Even if Pakistan accepts solution on it through foreign pressure, they must know with whom Pakistan stands inherently aligned as an independent country in the region? China certainly cannot go out of their (Pakistan’s) dictionary for Pakistan to hide their face from India because it is China that has basically built Pakistan to stand as a nuclear country parallel to India. Therefore, looking at the corollary of India of its undivided state, India can only match China as the regional power and not Pakistan of its present state in the hands of foreign powers. This is the truth as on date and that is why Perhaps George W Bush realizing India of its strong inherent state in global security terms offered to sign the nuclear deal breaking the norms on NPT and India is now in a difficult position to accept signing the NPT because it has to match itself with China and also with the emerging voices of parliament on it. From India’s side as far as I can see in spiritual or Supra mental terms there is no inherent sense of enmity either for Pakistan or for China but the material equation of disputes is such that India requires building a platform of strength that matches China knowing that Pakistan is a subtle friend of China religiously based over which a beginning of its secular culture even if it is seen coming in cannot be seen of its religiously vital going out totally because Pakistan’s governance in Military and political terms stays with subtlety as pawn in the hands of China and that is advantage of China over India and that is the reason India stands helpless on signing the NPT in order to maintain its position of strength harmlessly. Situations all the world over are not the same as they are with India as on date for signing as an independent country. Pakistan can certainly sign the NPT because his bogey on not signing by bringing in India first does not stand to logic?
If Obama has taken the step in United Nations for creating the infra structure on peace and power what better the world can expect out of it. Remember, he (Obama) is building up all that on the strength of America of its past that matches others of Power on it for acceptance whereas India as the regional power is exceptionally not placed yet and requires to be supported for building a credible deterrent first of strength that balances the region – it is not that India would like to remain non signatory to NPT for all the times to come. Governance of India at the top would straightway like to accept that but only through democratic process of India’s Parliament and that I know is matured enough both as strength and light that penetrates deep into the psyche of all offering both positive and negative seasonings based on logic of the times.
Nothing like accepting the exceptional of circumstances centered around the rule than to isolate or eliminate the exceptional from its universality that offers thinking, prudence and logic on it for all the basically peace loving to share on it without the sense of politics that endlessly goes on and on without a stop.

Pakistan is a country which has a soft corner for terrorism, so it cannot easily abdicate many of its foster children, the terrorists. The common people from both countries well understand this. And most of the leaders in Pakistan have always been nurturing a hate India policy to stay in power since partition. That is why Pak government cannot allocate much time for its internal affairs. As long as Indo-Pak relations should not be kept out of religious spectrum, Pakistan will suffer a lot and is not able to reach any solutions for the burning issues like this. Also, Pakistan more often misses the chances to mend the fences with its neighbors so that India can stop the cross border terrorism. Since religion is misused by vested interest in Pakistan, the government cannot get out of the tentacles immediately. The hatred, and rancor never take India and Pakistan to such a negotiating table where we both can reach a final solution for the long standing dispute. If we want to solve the problem, we need some good leaders who are very sincere to the welfare and harmony of the generations, who are determined to solve the problem amicably. Even though such thing is not in the offing, let us not lose optimism.

its a good start but frankly, the UN doesn’t have to be hypocritical wit sensitive issues like this. address the basics and other problems would majorly take care of itself. If Iran could be granted audience for the single reason that it has the resource to produce nuke-war heads then what stops other nations from trying to produce same just to be ranked among the super powers? issues like security council should not arise. every nation should have equal rights under the UN umbrella and no nation in political crisis should be consider has having sovereign powers as refugees and other disasters often spill to neighboring countries to take care of at its own expense. Each nation should have equal voting rights and the fate of major int’l political crisis like the Palestinian Israel crisis should be determine once and unanimously with matching orders to both sides to comply with…to solve this issue, we need to be more pragmatic and honest…

If the world leaders sincerely put their efforts to remove the veto power, that will be a great achievement in the world of democracy. If this problem is solved, some of the long standing issues will soon come to an end. Veto power is, in my opinion, against the democratic credentials we preach every now and then. Because, the veto power seems to be a stumbling block to articles 1 to 30 of the UN. I wonder how Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary General, can justify to his responsibilities as long as the veto power has a final say! Most of the member countries may have such opinion. Why are they so silent then against one of the undemocratic systems in the world? People fight day and night for changing the holy systems. Why don’t they spend some time for this system? It is a subject that should come now in the focus of the world arena. Maybe I am ignorant about the relevancy of the veto power in the UN Security Council. Can any one debate on this in order to rectify my mistake and take corrective step, please?

If at all it comes to the hand of any terror maniac, what will be shape of world after that? Any one may mark this comment as day dream but that days are knocking on our door. Its time for every nuclear powers (recognized or unrecognized) to make similar thinking as Mr Obama’s. It is difficult to disagree, generally, with
Prateep. What led to the creation of nuclear weapons was the Second World War wherein the US/allies were pitted against Nazis/Japan etc. While the Nazis got close to getting a breakthrough, US successfully exploded the bomb in good time. It used the same in Hiroshima/ Nagasaki to demolish Japanese threat while proclaiming to the world what it had
acquired.
Unfortunately the war was sparked by colonies held by most European powers except Germany. No wonder Hitler’ slogan was we want ‘lebensraum’. Britain as the principal colonial power was not prepared to make any adjustments just as it did not want to leave any colony. Read Churchill’ speeches of the time who was a typical English leader of the era.
The curse kept on spreading as rivals wanted to be able to netralize the threat. So Soviet Union and all permanent members of the Security Council’ hallmark was being nuclear powers. China developed on the same lines and India also followed suit under various pretensions. Pakistan, having experienced the BanglaDesh disaster, had to go nuclear for survival. I wish all powers would follow President Obama’ vision.
I’ m surprised to find venomous comments about pakistan by ‘r’. He writes in medieval style which is hard to understand. Likewise others too have maligned pakistan. it is very easy to overlook the fact that OBL/Taliban were American heroes who broke the Soviet Empire after its defeat in Afghanistan inthe late 80’s.
Post 9/11 world has drastically changed. US has been spinning tales, as and when considered necessary by them, about pakistan nukes falling in to the hands of ‘terrorists.’ The Indians, having joined the US lately, what is considered the world over, to keep a watch over China, appear to be carried away.
This attitude will harm the SAARC region which already is held hostage to such obsessions. Now that the world feels the threat of terrorism, the countries in the Near East must come together by resolving their disputes in a realistic manner. Only if we can present a united-front for peace can we hope to survive the threat. Nukes would help neither India nor China/US etc nor Pakistan. Vicious propaganda gainst Pakistan even when it is conducting massive operations against militants to save Afghanistan is bound to prove counter-productive.
India has too many of her own problems like Maoista, ‘ a dozen insurgencies’ in the Soth/East, its extremist like RSS/Hindutva warriors like col.Purohit etc. while the middle class has made some money in the last ten yaers, more than 300 million Dalis/lowest caste have sub-human existence socially/economically. Despite democracy, even the minority-bashing goes on every now and then because BJP etc have also to survive politically so some human beings like Christians, muslims, Sikhs are killed etc to please the concerned-goddess.
I’m not saying all this out of rancour but these are the objective conditions in India although nobody can deny that pakistan also has problems, avoidable/unavoidable.
Read Arun Dhatti Roy, a noble/proud Indian, and you would know how lack of Justice/ caste biases are threatening India.
Obama’ advice is the best way out for the whole humanity which is now facing all kinds of disasters.

I think President Obama is handling the Iran nuclear issue brilliantly. He is showing that he is as good a chess player as the Russians, and better than the Iranians who invented the game. I only wish that his policies were not being mediated here in Britain by neo-con hold overs from the previous administration. Aren’t there any powerful Democrat supporters living in London? More then half of human energy in the world is being spent on self destruction in the shape of deadly weapons, like the neuclear technology which in minutes make the life of every creature a hell. Human minds in this millinium, proved that world is now a village and old concepts of nations, sects, race and states have lost meanings. UN resolution against neuclear race and Mr Obama’s anti neuclear address indicate realisation of facts that this anti human aspect is no more a source of security for a nation who posses it. Rising global temprature has faced whole humanity with the question of survival,without any discrimination. spending more on weapons of any kind or maintaining rifts between human beings on any ground mean delaying the efforts to form a united front for fighting the violent earth and save our future generation from complete annihilation. Existence of even a single bullette on earth is now a challenge to the human wisdom as the enemy is no more among us but the mother nature and diseases, a common threat with universal implications. Today we have the oppertunity to avert this threat to our survival but tomorrow we might be at the point of no return. Only we all in this univers will be responsible for this self destruction if ignored this universal truth any more.
