To mark the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, President Obama met with three astronauts who made history on July 20, 1969.
Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were all invited to meet with the president this afternoon in the Oval Office. The three men were the only crew members of Apollo 11 when it became the first manned mission to land on the moon. It is believed they planned to use their face-to-face with President Obama to push for a space program that would put a human on Mars.
Speaking about his meeting with Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins, as well as today’s historic milestone, president Obama said,
“…I think that all of us recall the moment in which mankind finally was untethered from this planet and was able to explore the stars; the moment in which we had one of our own step on the moon and leave that imprint that is there to this day. And it’s because of the heroism, the calm under pressure, the grace with which these three gentlemen operated, but also the entire NASA family that was able to, at great risk oftentimes, and with great danger, was somehow able to lift our sights, not just here in the United States but around the world.”
It is estimated that 500 million people crowded around televisions and radios to watch or listen to the first moon walk. Were you one of those people? What do you think the future of space exploration should be? Here are some ideas about what might be next: http://www.america.gov/space.html

Friend –
Last week, Republican Senator Jim DeMint made it pretty clear why the opponents of health care reform are fighting so hard. As he told a special interest attack group, “If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.” Here’s how the President responded:
Think about that. This isn’t about me. This isn’t about politics. This is about a health care system that is breaking America’s families, breaking America’s businesses and breaking America’s economy. And we can’t afford the politics of delay and defeat when it comes to health care. Not this time, not now. There are too many lives and livelihoods at stake.
With Congress only days away from finalizing their plans for reform, it’s time to stand up with the President and fight back against this disastrous brand of old-style politics. So we need as many people as possible to publicly support the President’s principles for health care reform and call on Congress to act.
Before the first full votes in Congress, we’ll publish the signatures in newspaper ads across the nation, to make sure your voice is heard.
Watch President Obama’s full response, then add your name in support of reform. Or if you’ve already signed, please forward this message to every one of your friends and neighbors so they can join you.
The President is more dedicated than ever to passing health care reform that satisfies the three requirements he’s been talking about for months: Health care reform must reduce costs, guarantee choice — including the choice of a strong public insurance option — and ensure all Americans have quality, affordable health care.
If we do not reform our broken health care system this year, we will only shackle future generations with spiraling costs and deteriorating care. The cost of inaction is simply more than this country can afford.
But the special interests who profit from the status quo won’t go down without a fight. The ads, the smears, and the attacks — targeting both President Obama and members of Congress who support reform — will only get worse. So it’s crucial that we show huge backing before Congress finalizes their plans this month.
Stand with President Obama on health care reform:

About the time you became President, I was Campaigning to take over a disused Community Centre to reopen for the use of the whole Community.
…When I was told I sounded like you.
Well I found out today what that means.
I’m a small acorn compared to you, and I have planted many seeds in my Town, which is about a mile square, in an effort to introduce change.
I’m still Campaigning and would love to take up correspondence with you.
Any reference to me and my Campaign can be found by Googling my name. I’m in the Top Ten.
I hope this meets with your kind and considerate approval, and genuinely look forward to your response, as a fellow human being. Lenny Top Banana

Nice article. However I would like to remind the readers of the tough times the NASA is going through. The recent economic downturn has put pressure on our government to decrease unnecessary spending. nasa is a vulnerable organization with discretionary funding that could possibly be slashed to save funds. The newly elected administration will decide nasa’s future fate. President-elect Barack Obama has promised funds to nasa but it is questionable if he will be able to keep all of his promises. He will have to cut things out of the budget. In our struggle to get stop this economic downturn, some sacrifices will need to be made and not every government funded organization will be satisfied with the funds they receive. nasa is in a dilemma with the proposed retirement of the space shuttle in 2010.

I truly feel our President should put Health Care Reform on hold because it should not have became an issue until he forefilled his campaign promise of changing Washington and running Big Busines, Lobbyiest, Special Interest Groups out of the halls of Congress. First he should have pushed campaign finance reform to take contribution greed out of the lives of Congress. Our Congressional leaders do not work for us they work for Lobbyiest, special interest, and Big Business. As long as our Congressional are taking large campaign contributions from the above there will be no democracy in the United States. Ignorant people are having screem parties when they need to know how Washinton works. The greeedy Congrational Leaders do not write the Law Big Business write the law and have ran Congress since its inception. Until President take the greed out of Congress
we will never be free.

Does it not stand to reason why Big Business contribute Thousands of dollars to there Congresional Constituents? Healthcare reform will never pass as long as Big Pharmaceutical Co., Big Insurance Co, and other Healthcare Industries are filling the pockets of Greedy Congressional Leaders. It is not nessary for the to raise millions of dollars for commercials and ads in there State, get up their lazy azz and hold town meetings, it is not like they have to travel State to State, all they have to do is City to City, District to District, County to County. So if Americans want to have screem parties they need to be screeming about Campaign Finance Reform to make their Congressional Leader more honest.
