I would like to point out that the recession has not affected my family in the way that it has affected many others. I am no way saying this to do a ‘one up’ on others, only to point out the simple truth about the economics 101. Pay your bills and save before you spend and you will have something to use on a rainy day.
First of all I would like to point out that our current crisis is not only the result of greed on “Wall Street” but also the greed on “Main Street”. Many Americans became complacent in their belief that home prices would continue to climb, as well as those close to retirement believing that their investments would contiue to grow without worry of a bubble burst or full on cliff falling, dump. To these individuals, ‘regular’ Americans and ‘fufu’ types alike, I say ‘Shame on You.’ When it was good, you continued to spend, draw credit, and create complex investment instruments like the proverbial ‘drunken sailor’. Now that the hens have come home to roost, you are looking for someone to bail you out. That someone is me and the hundreds of thousands, or millions, like me who go to work everyday that provide for our families within the envelope of our capabilities.
Before you stretch out your hand for assistance, look deep inside and realize that your problem is of your own making. For those of you who feel that my candor is insulting or inflamatory, I say this, would you be willing to have your taxes raised or, better yet, would be willing to voluntarily write a check, contribute by credit card, or take cash to your local political official in order to contribute to the welfare of your neighbor. Think about that and remember this, “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day; teach a man to fish and he eats for the rest of his life.” Do give away to socialism without a fight. If the government gives to you, it will take twice of what it gave.
