McCain’s pork barrel game fun and educational

Both presidential candidates are using technology in new ways to reach and sway voters. They have large YouTube and Facebook presences, and both have detailed Web sites outlining their views on key issues.

Presumed Republican presidential nominee John McCain is trying a new tool to reach voters – Internet games. Visitors to his Web site can play the game “Pork Invaders.” Pork Invaders is designed to teach people about pork barrel spending, initiatives typically slipped into bills with the intention of benefiting a specific constituency. “Play the game to help John McCain in his tireless fight against wasteful spending,” the Web site says.

In the game, users try to “veto” pigs and pork barrels before they are attacked by enemy pigs. With the completion of each level, users learn more facts abut the candidates’ positions on pork barrel spending. Users can also put this game on their own personal Facebook pages or other Web sites.

  1. This is a key area that must get under control if we are to get the country back on track. The tax and spend must stop. This is a good way for the public to gain knowledge of how the “system” works in Washington and push back. Sarah Palin may help this effort. Exposure of those who are the most in violation of ear marking and pork barreling is important.

  2. As a candidate, Barack Obama once said that a president has to be able to do more than one thing at a time. He criticized pork barrel spending in the form of “earmarks,” urging changes in the way that Congress adopts the spending proposals. But a certain project by the government details the “pork” spending done by the federal government every year. It is known as the Citizens Against Government Waste. If more people had their hands on it, a lot of legislators would doubtless put an online cash advance to stop it. The CAGW makes the Pig Book available for free download and a hard copy of the yearly report available for a cash donation. The donation asked for isn’t huge, so you can get a copy of the Pig Book of government pork without worrying about short term loans.

  3. I agree. We need to stop the earmarks, the pork and all the unecessary Government spending. We need to keep taxes low, or else we will tax ourselves into an even deeper depression than we already are in.
